In The Times today an article “Dickens Man Cave on Heritage Red List”. Historic England has just published its annual update on buildings at risk. Two of those are “Dickens Swiss Chalet was a Christmas gift in 1864 ……moved to Eastgate House in Rochester in the 1960s. It is Grade I listed” And “Halls Croft, a Grade I listed house of 1613 in Stratford-upon-Avon which was once home to Shakespeare’s daughter”. I know these now have the publicity of being in a national newspaper, but can’t Historic England start something like GoFundMe for buildings like this. This is our heritage and it is shameful the buildings are rotting. |
