I agree with the three of you. It really does not make sense! I was reading the article on PutneySW15 about Fleur Anderson agreeing with giving them the vote. She says: "Ms Anderson said the reforms were essential to restoring trust in the democratic system. “Giving 16 and 17-year-olds the vote is a major step forward for our democracy. Young people deserve a say in the decisions that will shape their lives and their future,” she said. She added that strengthening democracy also meant protecting it from outside interference: “British elections should be decided by British voters – not by whoever can write the biggest cheque.” One thing will not cancel the other! Also, has experience not taught us anything???? I do not believe 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough to vote and, hand in heart, I would rather they concentrated in their exams a lot more!! There is plenty of time in the very near future for them to express their opinions, particularly when they have jobs and understand the income/expenditure ratio. Scotland extended voting rights to 16-17 year olds for the independence referendum and no more. Hmmmmmm. |
