| If I have understood the last two posts correctly, the justification for Keir Starmer’s plan to reverse the result of the Referendum by bringing the UK into dynamic alignment with EU rules (on which the UK has no say) is that 1) the 17 million people who voted to leave the EU are ‘elderly bigots’ 2) the politicians who supported Brexit were ‘charlatans’ 3) the Irish are upset about Brexit 4) counterfactual analysis suggests that the UK may have been better off if it had remained in the EU 5) the Labour manifesto made a vague reference to moving closer to the EU. Does anyone give ‘two hoots’ about democracy? But to return to the topic of this thread, I have no objection to protesters who wish to express their support for the Palestinians. I would even support their right to hold placards accusing Israel of genocide, though I personally regard these people as ghastly anti-Semites who need to be called out. The issue is their support for Palestine Action, a group which has been proscribed because of its involvement in violence and criminal damage. Members of the group have now compounded their offence by surrounding Royal Navy personnel while wearing masks, which if not illegal is certainly wrong. But at the same time I think the police could be better employed dealing with more serious crimes. |
