Amazing - but does he also point out that Britain had been benefiting hugely from that same trade for at least the previous two centuries? Or that after abolition, it was not the slaves themselves who were compensated for their treatment but the owners for the loss of their "property," payment for which largesse was finally completed only in 2015? And does the "enormous cost" you refer to include this largesse?
