Unfortunately shoplifting incidents are too common to attract the news. It is possible that this story is true yet won't be picked up by local media. £5,000 seems to be around the amount awarded for whiplash with 99% being settled out of court. Employment status is another complication. Was the alleged security person directly employed by the supermarket or was it via an agency, could it have even been a zero hour contract? "Sacked" is probably how the security person would describe it whatever their employment status was. I'm not sure Co-op publish their guidelines about security staff and shoplifting. It could be that they are instructed to only provide a deterrent but that is not likely to be advertised. Still I'm sure those that agreed with the UK following US foreign policy must be glad we continue to adopt US domestic policy. No doubt someone will post that they are all victims and winners in such a situation. |
