| Ms Bond I tend to agree with much of what you say. The Levant has always been mixed and of course Jews have been living in the area since at least a millennium BC. It is also true that the Jews have been a particularly persecuted race world wide, far more than any other, during all this time. I am not sure why. Do you have a view ? And Israel's history in more recent times is pretty messy and complex but that is because of its fight for survival. And its conclusion that it needed a homeland in the area in which it has been present for this long time, in order to protect itself and feel safe. But what's past is past and Israel has the right to be properly recognised and supported for being the civilised and 'westernised' country it is. It is democratic, and has a free press and judicial system. The countries surrounding it do not. And it should not be forgotten that it is a country not just for Jews. 20.95% of Israel's population already identify themselves as Arab or Palestinian by nationality and Israeli by citizenship. Also there are ten Arab members in the Israeli Knesset, so political exclusion does not exist. Can't say the same for the status of Jews in the Islamist countries that surround ! |
