Not missing the plot at all.
It was hatched 30 years ago when they bought the freehold off Merton for peanuts.
They never stated they wanted a golf course. It was always the case they would develop the tennis business on the site of the golf course.
Indeed they have tried many times over the years to buy out the lease.
They do not own the park itself so cannot develop that and if they say that the public can walk around the lake when the works are done that's one small improvement on the position with the golf
course as that was not possible before, unless you played golf. The golf course was completely private with no access for the general public.
This scheme has not just happened it's been coming for 30 years.
I think the squash? club in the middle of the site are still holding firm.
