Hi Martine.  Heat pumps were being discussed on LBC this morning but unfortunately they were getting a big 👎🏻from most callers who had seriously looked into having one and had the relevant survey done. The couple of positive calls came from a company who sold them and a man who had his house built from scratch and had one installed during the build so didn't have to experience any upheaval which is one of the drawbacks.  Also the size of the units was a problem depending on the size of the property and two callers said it the size of a wardrobe! These weren't mansions they were living in just normal 3/4 bedroom properties. Another caller said that if the pump is used to heat the water as well it takes the power away from the general heating and the ambient temperature is then limited to around 65F. Another man said he was quoted £30k for the pump and its installation! It seems the cost of the actual pump is around £10k but the cost of installing it is what bumps the up the price depending on how complicated the job is particularly in older properties.
