Following the sub postmaster scandal and a blind faith in technology I see Computer Weekly has highlighted another similar case, although in this instant courts are assisting potential victims. TfL are making decisions to revoke drivers' private hire licences based on Uber information from automated facial verification used to identify drivers during their logon process. It appears that Uber and TfL are not taking into account that such technology is still very often unreliable particularly when identifying women and people of colour. (Probably because most software is designed and tested by white males?)

One could argue that Uber are being ultra cautious but that shouldn't be to the financial detriment of the drivers, it should surely be a cost of Uber doing business? Let's hope when the compensation claims start being paid out Uber will foot the bill and not other TfL users or London council tax payers. Perhaps time for black cab drivers to challenge the validity of Uber's licence again? And for ICO involvement as the Amsterdam case seems to indicate a breach of the GDPR, the equivalent of which has been incorporated into UK law post Brexit .
