The absolute legal restrictions are all coming off but we are asked to act responsibly. Just as well - the infection rate is higher than it has ever been, the new delta variant is more infectious than smallpox, many people are not fully vaccinated and vaccination does not provide 100% protection - particularly to the many immuno-compromised people amongst us. It's great that so many people have been able to get back to school, work etc and do a few more of the things they enjoy. But let's try to stick to things which are useful or necessary. Let me give you some examples of social mixing which potentially spread infection but are NOT strictly necessary or particularly useful: (a) Putney Conservatives Summer Garden Party. 29th July. (b) Mitcham & Morden Conservatives Special Summer Picnic. 7th August. Why are they going ahead? To raise money for the Conservative Party. No Covid passport will be necessary to attend either event, no vaccine need be obtained, no mask need be worn and no test need be taken before entry - despite LFT's being available free from practically every chemist. They should be ashamed! |
