Many elderly in their own homes have carers who visit for very short periods of time.  Sometimes several times a day but often different carers.  These carers have to co-ordinate but unfortunately often don't and that does not mean that anyone will take responsibility for asking about something like the jab.  The way that they rush in and rush out on a rota which is basically unworkable means that if they wake you up when they knock on the door (if they don't let themselves in) you may not have foremost in your mind that there is a letter - and they are also unlikely to have time to organise it all.  They will generally be there just to take a person to the loo or give them something to eat and/or some medication.

Unfortunately the word "carers" can be a bit of a misnomer and I don't mean unkindly - I just mean that they don't have the time that many of them would like for a bit of a chat or that bit more like having a look for a hearing aid/TV zapper etc than is in their regular daily rushed routine.  In our experience although they are supposed to be paid for their travel they often aren't so they have to clip time off visits in order to fit in all the overlapping ones on their rota - and that is in the good times without people not turning up or off sick.

The situation is not wonderful at all.  So never stop visiting your friends just because they have carers - well unless they ask you to - and mean it!
