I would urge people to look at the cost of a new bridge which is a fraction of the cost of repair of the current bridge and will last longer. There should be also an environmental impact that compares the various solutions. We could have had a new bridge ages ago! So if it is cheaper and more environment friendly to replace why should we be held hostage by Hammersmith Bridge II just because it is listed? They didn't hesitate to replace the first Hammersmith Bridge after all! It's well past time for Hammersmith Bridge III. Quite frankly we are going to dump here enough covid debt on the next generations - is it really justifiable to add more?
