I'm not sure there's the infrastructure to manage rationing by the state at present, it's easier for the supermarkets to do it. The thing is, unlike WWII, there aren't any shortages as far as I'm aware. Our Ocado delivery earlier this week had all the items we requested bar one (Dettol), but the quantities were reasonable. (I understand from my wife, who entered the order, some item's quantities were being limited by the on-line order system.) People are just bulk buying unnecessarily. Today there were virtually no bananas, why are people panic buying those? They'll be nice and black and squishy in a couple of weeks time ?? I'm still amazed that there's a run on loo paper ... Crisis what crisis? |
