No, I don't think that I'd resort to sneaking my own booze into a pub. There is a trend, of course, to entertain more at home, having stocked up in a supermarket. But my point was not that pubs are expensive nowadays. My point was the discrepancy between London and elsewhere. If petrol was £1.15 a litre throughout the U.K., but £2.15 in London, there would be an outcry. If your £1 newspaper cost £2 in London, people would be baffled, and complain. The £4 pint seems to have simply crept in and been accepted, with the help of the odd leather sofa and a bucket of trendy grey paint.
