I've recently ventured off my sofa to try out a couple of Pub Quiz nights in the Putney area, specifically at the Queen Adelaide and the Spotted Horse, (both Young's pubs, I think). Both of these pubs charge like wounded rhinos, with a pint of ordinary lager easily topping £4 (San Miguel £4.30 in the S.H.), and yet the pubs are packed with happy punters. Last weekend I paid £2.40 for a perfect pint of beer in Sheffield. This pub had spent as much on decor, and had the same staff levels as the London pubs (probably on the same rate of pay). The only possible difference could be in the rent each pub pays. Or, more likely, charging what the market will stand. Which makes me feel a soft Southern mug for allowing it. Are there any better value pints to be had in Putney? Bill.
