| On Monday night/early Tuesday morning, someone sawed down seven young fir trees on Putney Lower Common. Everyone has been shocked and saddened to see them all lying there. They have been a welcome sight of green during this seemingly everlasting cold winter. This comes a few months after young conifers that had been planted last autumn were pulled up and stolen. Why would anyone do such an unpleasant thing? If we all took a saw to any tree that we took a dislike to, before long the whole place would be barren. Now the keepers have the extra sad job of disposing of the bodies - more than a day's work on top of all the other tasks they have. |
