The new planning documents have identified a new site for redevelopment in Montserrat Rd: the Putney Telephone exchange. The plans involve shopping at ground floor level and residential above. The buildings would be subject to more stringent regulations from 6 storeys upwards but there is no maximum height set eventhough this is qualified in the planning documents as "sensitive" to buildings above 6 storeys but not "unsuitable" for tall buildings. The worrying point is that access to residential and retail servicing on the site will be via Montserrat Rd and since it is a one way street, the increased traffic through this residential street will impact on Montserrat, Burstock and Atney Roads as well as Oxford Road where vehicles heading south will have to exit. The plans can be viewed on the WBC website : http://wandsworth-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal/planning/ssad/site_specific_allocations_document_-_proposed_submission?pointId=d1569074e568#section-d1569074e568 ( Click on Popup full image for the overall view) and then click on section 6.1.4 in the left margin. The Council will be presenting their plans for Putney at a Putney Society meeting open to the public in November. This will be advertised by the Putney Society shortly I believe. |
