Leaders Gardens would be a great loss as, apart from other things, there are many mature trees. Vehicle access issues are a major concern also. The works at Barn Elms will close the riverside path and create a large wharf which will disrupt river rowing and quite likely have an effect on the boat race. When completed the lagacy will be a 15m x 3m construction just behind where the scout hut is on the tow path. At Putney Bridge we'll have a 10m x 1m ventilation column right next to the bridge along with an extended area into the river with a redirected slipway. Leaders Gardens and the shore in front of Putney Wharf are also shortlisted sites. The construction is going to last seven years, starting in 2013. We need this tunnel but are these sites the best choice? People in Putney need to be aware and go and visit the consultation exhibition.
