This isn't a new problem; I remember it well from the late 1990s. At the time I was getting post for my house number, but for various surrounding roads.
My late mother had dementia and in 1999 I had to register the POA, sell her bungalow etc. This involved precious documents, some of which, like the POA, could not be replaced. I remember going myself to the Public Trust Office so I could hand it over in person because I did not trust the post. When she died in 2003 and I had to apply for probate, RM was in the midst of/emerging from a strike and again I was afraid precious documents would go AWOL. I used a courier comnpany to get the stuff to HMRC in Nottingham and if necessary would have got on a bus and taken it myself. Some things, if they're lost, they're lost; when you're in that situation it's a tremendous worry, and we shouldn't have to run around and do things ourselves. |
