It was predicted to be one of the highest tides of the year, but the combination of an easterly wind up the estuary and a very strong flow from the upper Thames after recent rain produced this exceptional water level. We were spared similar experiences on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday by five consecutive closures of the Thames Barrier. That's why the tides on those days didn't match the predictions. A Flood Watch alert for riverside properties upstream of Putney Bridge has been in operation since Tuesday evening. |
