Much has been made of the waste of public money by calling this election but no one seemed to be concerned when an election was called in  Makerfield in order to parachute Andy Burnham into a safe seat, which in turn necessitated a mayoral election in Manchester. The notion that Nigel Farage is disqualified from attacking the establishment by virtue of having attended an independent schools and made money as a city trader is rather silly. If he proposed the abolition of private education or advicated swinging taxes on banks, he could be accused of hypocrisy. But he has advocated neither of these policies, unlike many in the Labour movement. Farage's main complaint against the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat establishment is that they have allowed waves of immigration which have undermined living standards in working class communities.
