The problem with recycling is what to do with the plastic once it's been recycled.

You buy your plastic item, you put it in the recycling - if  (and it's a very big if) it actually gets recycled (rather than going to the incinerator) into let's say a hoodie.

What then happens with the hoodie when someone throws it away? It's can't be recycled again (generally you can only recycle plastics once or max twice) so ultimately (even if it gets donated to Africa) it will end up in an incinerator or washed up on some third world beach.

While all of this is going on, plastics companies are ramping up production to make even more virgin plastic that they have ZERO responsibility for.
