| Renationalisation of the water companies could cost up to £100 billion in compensation to the shareholders, including pension funds. This money would have to be found by cutting the NHS or welfare budget. Furthermore after renationalisation the water companies would be on the government’s books. So investment to repair leaks and so on would have to come out of general taxation. This would require further tax increases, which slow growth. |
