| Apparently this is not a new problem. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38408842/warships-repaired-uk-base-attacked-cyprus/#:~:text=Out%20of%20the%20six%20Type,for%20an%20astonishing%20nine%20years. Still, I'd guess that a parked destroyer might still be capable of being an anti-missile battery, viable though less so. "The UK maintains a global military presence at approximately 145 sites across 42 countries and territories. While the Ministry of Defence officially highlights a smaller number of major Permanent Joint Operating Bases (PJOBs) and training hubs, independent research reveals a much broader network of small contingents, exchange posts, and allied-run facilities." Can't do this with austerity policies it would seem. Over-reach. We appear to be second only to the USA in this base network. China should get more, I suppose. |
