| I am also confused about the point David Ainsworth is trying to make, Sue. Lucille's rejoinder to Richard, in effect that he doesn't have the right to tell Jewish people what anti-Semitism means, has nothing whatever to do with John's point that Michael Rosen's Jewish heritage does not necessarily mean that his views about Israel are correct. On anti-Semitism, no one person has the right to rule on what is or what isn't anti-Semitic. But when the Prime Minister, the Culture Secretary, the BBC itself, Offcom and the Chief Rabbi all agree that Vylan's rant was anti-Semitic, perhaps Richard should consider whether he has got this issue wrong. John's point is obviously correct. Your heritage is no guarantee that you are talking sense on an issue of race. What happens when two people of the same race disagree? As I think Lucille pointed out, Jews, especially in this country, have widely different views on the conflict in Gaza. |
