"The slippery slope to the return of the death penalty" - The Spectator. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-slippery-slope-to-the-return-of-the-death-penalty/ The article was I am sure really written as a provocative thought experiment. On the other hand if it is suggested there is popular support for the state and the NHS to facilitate 'assisted dying', why should it not do the same with capital punishment which is probably supported by many more. Yes assisted dying is, we are told to assume, an individual's own decision whilst capital punishment is the decision of the state. But none the less the end result is the same and the state is a key participant in both. |
