Not just invested in renewables but also made sure our buildings were insulated and ventilated well to deal with hotter and colder weather without resorting to extra heating and cooling. The Victorians and Edwardians designed and used their sash windows so that when open a little at top and bottom the rising hot air goes out the gap at the top and the cold air is sucked in at the bottom. Make sure you have window locks. There is more in an Imperial College article on the Extreme Heat thread. If you can create a natural draught from one side of a building to the other safely and shade rooms from the hottest sun you can avoid needing a fan or AC. This can obviously be more difficult in small spaces. |
