Boris announced the first ULEZ while Mayor and then promptly buzzed off before it was put in place. Our Tory Govt was taken to the High Court and lost three times because of their inability to deal or even present strategies to deal with the illegal air pollution in the UK (it wouldn't increase popularity would it) the onus fell on the new Mayor of London to take tough action to deal with it. Of course other countries in Europe were already dealing with theirs but the UK Govt while in the EU lobbied for the limits to be lowered so that the state of our air here didn't seem so bad... The French have just banned some plastic packaging of fruit and vegetables but plastic is a by-product of oil and we are still struggling to not only deal with the lobbying from that industry but are still quietly subsidising the use of it, aren't we? |
