| Alda, there is a interesting article here that makes a number of points which I was not aware of. Once at sea how they got there isn't the RNLI concern their lives are. Claiming asylum in the first safe country was a EU thing apparently - 'Dublin III' and we left the EU and hence those agreements. The referendum was over 5 years ago the Conservative government(s) must not have seen it as a priority IMO. Under the previous EU agreement migrants could be returned to the first member state but with no no such agreement they have the right under international law to claim asylum in UK I assume. What is also interesting is the countries that they are fleeing - the top two the UK has had a hand in destabilising.
