No Andy I do not accept that way of thinking and I even more object to public money spent promoting it.

"..will prevent a theft"

This implies that theft in inevitable and acceptable like using an umbrella to prevent yourself from getting wet.

Theft is carried out by someone consciously. The model that you promote simply does not work because there will eventually  be someone less prepared, less able for whatever reason.

There is also an environmental impact of accepting crime. The green clean cities of the future will be ones with low crime enabling shared resources.

As a society we need to start tackling those that commit crime and prevent it by looking at the real causes of crime which is not someone having a coffee, parking their car or some old lady taking money out of a cash point.

But I guess blaming the victim is just another way to distract the public from the real issues - rather similar to the technique used by the phone thief don't you think??
