Katrina. It depends where I'm living and working. There are flats in most boroughs - some manage to use the food waste systems. WRAP have done lots of trials. Friends in Wandsworth wish there was food waste recycling. It shows you exactly what you are wasting and gives you yourself the power to tweak your buying, eating and storing of food to save money and make less waste. I think it's definitely a win win situation that residents of Wandsworth are missing out on. Both Lambeth and Westminster who are Western Riverside have done/are doing it. When it is estimated that a family of four wastes £60 of food a month (just look at that multiplied by 12) or one in three carrier bags of food gets thrown away then it has to be worth reassessing what you are doing. We can't all be innocent! Oxford has people who will mentor residents who want to start composting their garden and food waste. There are reduced price composters offered by councils. You don't see many Green Johannas or Green Cones presumably because they are more expensive but sometimes you can find these on www.trashnothing.com or other similar websites. https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/why-save-food |
