Fross, In 1981 planes were not flying over my house every 90 seconds so it was bearable. And I must confess, I liked Concorde. I even flew in it. (It was a business trip so I didn't pay.) The Davies report makes clear that our "respite" will collapse from half the day to, at best, a couple of hours. This is hidden on page 183. The guy lacked the courage to put it in bold in the summary at the front. Even the Davies report acknowledges the environmental damage of aviation and the additional damage from a 3rd runway. Work by Imperial College shows the adverse impact of aircraft noise on cardiovascular and mental health, and Professor Stephen Stansfeld's work has underlined the harm done by aircraft noise to children's learning. I don't think it's much of a defence to say Hammersmith & Fulham will suffer from more noise from the 3rd runway than Putney. I have a friend in Hammersmith who is very disturbed by aircraft noise already. We're in this together as the court cases brought by councils working together demonstrates. |
