Well said Jane. When I came to Putney in 1981 there were about 250,000 aircraft movements at the airport. The Inspector at the T5 inquiry said the terminal could go ahead on condition that aircraft movements were capped at 480,000 per annum, as to exceed this would make life intolerable for residents under the flight path. It's around that at the moment, planes going over my house every 90 seconds at 2,500 ft for half the day, and I find that unendurable. Had I known how things would develop I would have made a life for myself somewhere else, and I take the strongest exception to people who say, oh you knew what it was like. In 1981 the planes were not a distraction. Heathrow expansionists, backed by Theresa May with her 3 line whip, and Mr Johnson with his oh-so-important daytrip to Afghanistan when the 3rd runway was debated, want to increase the number of aircraft movements by 56 per cent. And, perhaps not in this blissful period, but normally planes fly over my house later than 22.00. |
