It is surprising that with such a close result and the number of abstentions that the wishes of a substantial minority are being ignored - if indeed it is still now a minority. As can be seen from this clip from the legislation, the result was advisory and we're going for a hard exit that wasn't on the original agenda. I'd note Johnson has previously voted for May's deal and we were told a deal would be easy to negotiate - so either these people are liars or I competent? The uncertainty of rather than the no deal itself is damaging the UK's economy, if only because of money and time spent on contingency planning rather than strategic decisions and investment. Johnson seems determined to widen the divisions in the UK and spend money we were told previously we didn't have. I suspect a hard Brexit won't be the end - particularly when the US starts making demands unacceptable to the UK ... hello Schengen and the Euro? ?? |
