The threat of war from Pompeo is very dangerous and his justification has nil value: the video he claims that shows Iran's involvement doesn't show anything at all (you can see it on the Telegraph's website [paywall]).
He claims that Iran is reacting to US sanctions (which it would be, of course fully entitled to do) but his claim that "No economic sanctions entitle the Islamic Republic to attack innocent civilians, disrupt global oil markets and engage in nuclear blackmail" is feeble at best. The US hardly has clean hands where killing innocent civilians is concerned, the point about global oil markets is debatable but the "nuclear blackmail" claim is a stone cold lie. I'd be the last to defend the regime in Iran (the treatment of Nazanin Zaghari Radcliffe lone is appalling) but it complied completely with all it was asked to do over nuclear materials, so Pompeo's claim on this is patently absurd and was, seemingly, only included to try to pump up a very feeble case.
The risk of war is very serious, and I wish the UK government, which claims to be close to its ally, would try to exercise a restraining influence. But of course, poodle-like, it'll go along with whatever Pompeo and the rest of the rotten crew decide.
