Agree with you both that changing the habits of jumping into the car for even the shortest of journeys is going to take some effort. It would be helped a lot by some very simple (and inexpensive) measures to open up residential streets to cyclists, and give pedestrians priority over motor vehicles in town centres. I recognise the hostility to cyclists, but as it once again becomes an ordinary mode of transport that will changes. I found it encouraging that in boroughs where there is a will to do something - like Waltham Forest - then change can happen quickly. |
