Mr Carter Not withstanding the accuracy and relevance of what Mr Boles wrote about the relative wealth and privilege of Raynor versus her accusers, it is still true that though on a smaller scale, she is accused of offences/mistakes/errors of judgement that at least give the impression she gained some unwarranted tax benefit when selling her house. But surely the real criticism of her is that she refuses to publish any details of the transactions and advice she has received regarding the tax position, whereas in the past she has been strident in demanding that others publish their tax and financial arrangements. And she was also a strident opponent of Thatcher's 'right to buy' scheme when it was introduced but took advantage of it herself. As usual in politics it is the hypocrisy and inevitable embarrassment caused by the revelation of financial matters that MPs want to hide that catches them out. |
