It was a bit of a different meeting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. QUite well attended. I know Penelope Lively was batting against the meeting because she had quite a large audience at the library last night. Anyway, Justine, at the last minute, was flying out to the Philippines late last night, so she only came for the first 20 minutes. Gave an account of where and why she's going (she must have amazing stamina) and briefly touched on other aspects of the job. Said she will come and do a full meeting in the new year, which will be good. Then they opened the floor to questions that we would have asked Justine. I think they'll send them to her, and she'll either answer in writing and the Putney Society will publish them, or I guess she'll tell us the answers at the next meeting. Then Donald Gee, who is an actor who lives in Putney, and was Justine's stand in, spoke very entertainingly about life as an actor. His lead in was very good with a story about a charity theatre performance he'd been involved in for Oxfam. I thought it was very well organised, even though they'd only found out yesterday for sure that Justine was going last night. Well done to whoever organised it. Just wish there were more younger people showing an interest in Justine |
