Oh dear, Adam Gray has taken a nasty pill again. I do hope that he will be helping to mastermind the Labour Party's campaign for the Mayoral elections in two years, and indeed helping them in the next local and general elections. I have little doubt that his negative vitriol aimed on occasions very personally aginst Justine Greening paid a significant part in Stuart King being little short of massacred at the last general election. But to return to the Upper Richmond Road and pavement cyclists. When the Upper Richmond Road was closed between the High Street and East Putney station a few months ago I frequently campaigned on this website for action to be taken against pavement cyclists illegally and unnecessarilly endangering pedestrians by cycling, often at speed, on the pavement. With the assistance of Dick Tracey, our Assembly Member, I arranged for the introduction of a perfectly viable detour and pressed the local SNT into issuing spot fines to those who ignored it. When TfL closed the present stretch of the Upper Richmond Road I again worked closely with Dick Tracey to introduce a cyclist-friendy detour. I also pressed the three SNTs involved, against the wishes of the Sector Inspector, to patrol the area regularly to deter anti-social and illegal pavement cyclists. I did not work alone. I had the help of my fellow Conservative councillors in East Putney, West Putney and Thamesfield. I made a few enemies, but a lot of friends, and the Putney society has now come out against pavement cyclng. What have I done on the subject of illegal cycling for the residents of East Putney whom I represent, Adam? Just look back on the website over the past year, it speaks for itself. I have tried to be positive in my response to you, Adam. Let's see if you can respond to me without too much negativity and vitriol. Cllr Leslie McDonnell East Putney Ward |
