Next Sunday, 11 July at 3.0pm, a 'Summer Spire Tea Party' is being held in Holy Trinity Church, Ponsonby Road, Roehampton. The event has been arranged by the Putney Society to enable those who may not know this fine Grade Two listed chuch, consecrated in 1898, to learn about it and to hear about the recent restoration of its 200ft spire, a local landmark. The programme will include 'Highlights from Roehampton's History', a talk by Dorian Gerhold (Putney's leading historian), a short recital on the splendid church organ by Mrs M Woodroffe, and the Vicar of Roehampton, Rev Jim McKinney, will tell the story of the spire's restoration and the return of the newly guilded Welsh dragon weathervane to its apex. Tea, sandwiches and cakes will be provided. There will be a bucket collection at the end of the afternoon, to help towards the spire restoration and the refreshments. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wandsworth, Councillor and Mrs Piers McAusland, will be attending the event. Buses 72, 85, 170, 265, 430 and 493 all stop nearby. You are very welcome to come to this special event. |
