Hi Polly My wife is german and we have a house near Trier. It can be quite a challenge to remember what can be recycled in each place - all plastics in Germany, but only plastic bottles in London. Wandsworth used to be terrible, but then they introduced the orange bag scheme and now it's very good. Apparently the council is limited by what the recycling companies can handle. Since the scheme was started they have added TetraPaks to the list of recyclables, so i have hopes that the scheme will continue to improve. If you have big stuff, like electrical items, or garden waste, that you want to dispose of, the best way is to drive to the big waste disposal centre - the entrance is opposite the B&Q car park entrance in Wandsworth. People driving ordinary family cars (not vans) can dump stuff there for free. They recycle lots of stuff, such as clean wood, garden waste, metal, stone & brick, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, electrical items etc. There is a website; http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200084/recycling_rubbish_and_waste/267/reuse_and_recycling_centres_tipdump ...with opening times etc. |
