Sarah, even though  she wasn't wearing a collar, was  she chipped? We got  our Patterdale  from Battersea  in January and he was  found in similar circumstances - he was obviously a well cared  for dog  who had  run off: no collar and no chip meant that Battersea  couldn't trace his owner (he  was  found in Borehamwood and the owner  didn't  think to contact Battersea, obv) and we  were  very fortunate in being able to give him a new home. As long as  Battersea  have you on record  as her being missing you do stand a chance that they will get her  and all will be well. Keep in touch with them...Best of luck. It is heart breaking  when a  loved  pet goes missing.  :-(
