Barbara, no, no joke. As you seem concerned that you are paying too much WPCC Levy you must be living in the area designated for those who pay for the upkeep of the Commons. You are therefore able to run for election even if you can’t run to the Common easily. Below is how that area is defined on the WPCC website. It always concerns me that there are more voters in Putney than there are in Wimbledon. But also there are almost always fewer from Putney than Wimbledon and often none at all. Nick From the WPCC web site: How are Levy-payers defined?If you live within three quarters of a mile of the perimeter of Wimbledon Common, measured by the most direct route along roads or footpaths, or within the old Parish of Putney as it was in 1871 (which now includes much of Roehampton), your property will be subject to an additional Levy on top of any Council Tax. This Levy is collected on behalf of the Conservators by the appropriate local authority – Kingston Upon Thames, Merton or Wandsworth. It is the responsibility of the Council concerned to decide whether to identify the Levy separately on its Council Tax bills. |
