That's interesting, Steven. I wonder if that's a bit like comparing opera with folk/rock? Isn't taste is an aspect as well?

Some people can't stand opera, but could one deny that - for example - Mozart and Handel wrote great music and used some of the best librettists of both their times? While artists such as Joni Mitchell, Tim Hardin, Lenton & McCartney, Brian Wilson, etc produced music more meaningful for their own period? Which some might dismiss? And some might appreciate both genres? (Of course, Mozart 's operas managed to inject what some might consider slightly subversive messages for their time ...)
