Interesting, Steven, I  had to look that up. If i'm correct, the British troops were supporting the legitimate government and forces? So slightly different to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc and the current situation in Iran? Sadly, although the west gets criticised in the cases mentioned for not assisting but where would one start?  Let's be honest, in most cases where the west has intervened it's had a vested interest (Iraq war #1: Kuwaiti oil, Afghanistan: Bin Laden-9/11, ...). Surely, there shouldn't be an intervention without an agreed UN mandate? Or a request for support from a legitimate government?  Trouble is, there's always different views on this. An Iraqi chap I was on a course with in the early 90s after the first Iraq war, was annoyed with the US, not because they invaded Iraq but because they decimated the Iraqi army without removing Sadam Hussein when they had the opportunity. (He was safe in the UK as he and his English wife had had to flee Iraq in the 80s because of unwise comments he'd made about Sadam ...) I'm not sure he'd appreciate the earlier comments made about the earlier comments on the Iran-Iraq war as (if I remember correctly) he said he'd lost three brothers in that war :-(
