| Ms Hammond If nurses are the 'angels of the NHS' what are the 'junior doctors' ? Does the conjunction of 'poor pay' and 'doctors' immediately leap to most people's minds ? When considering their salaries, factor in also their very generous final salary pension schemes which I believe they can draw on from around 55 years of age. 'Junior Doctors: Starting salaries for junior doctors in England are around £29,000 to £34,000 per year. Specialty Doctors: Salaries for specialty doctors range from £40,000 to £75,000 depending on experience and location. Consultants: Consultant doctors can earn between £82,000 and £110,000 annually, with potential for additional earnings through private practice. General Practitioners (GPs): GPs typically earn between £60,000 and £90,000, depending on their practice and patient list size.' Regarding pensions as of April 2019, the employer (NHS ie 'us') contribution rate is 20.68%, which includes a scheme administration charge of 0.08%. Maximum doctor's contribution is 12.5% of salary for those earning more than £63K. Oh and there is also a matter of the Hippocratic oath they swear - literally or metaphorically ! |
