I suppose I am of a generation who can remember when people were not given access to generous benefits and to some extent "if you didn't work you didn't eat'.

I have posted earlier that my maternal grandmother was widowed  at around thirty and had three daughters and her own mother to support at a time before even 'National Assistance' was available.

So she got up early every day and went out to do three cleaning jobs.

Her husband in his short life would walk miles looking for casual work as a plasterer.

I know this sounds very Dickensian but what a contrast to today when I understand you are not even assessed face to face when you claim benefits and can do so online.

And you don't have to be British !

What a moral decline we are experiencing.

And the attitude of entitlement is infectious.

I regularly see kids getting on the bus without any cash card or even a free school pass (which you have to go to the effort of applying and paying for) and just try swanning to the back.

The drivers, often to avoid hassle or worse, just let them pass.

However one of my triumphs of the week was when I challenged two yobs attempting the above manoeuvre and told them if they couldn't pay they should walk.

My persistence and waved walking stick eventually forced then off.

The Labour entitlement society.
