My understanding is that the Council are, in fact, buying the site for a Primary School in order to address the shortage of primary places in Putney. The question as to whether it is to be a "Free School" or not is to my mind somwhat obscure as the concept promulgated by the Government includes parental management plus involvement by a private company (as in the case of the Free School on the Bolingbroke Hospital site). However it seems that a school can be a Free School managed only by a private company, although it would still be financed by the Council. This seems me to raise a number of questions and it would be helpful to be given more information as to why a Free School is felt to be "better" than a school run by the Council, which, after all, would have parents among the Governors. |
