All major potholes are repaired as soon as they are reported. The council has made a conscious decision in light of our experiences last year and bearing in mind the forecast for more severe weather towards the end of this month that it would be prudent to defer the remainder of the repairs until March and April. We have 225 miles of road to repair and they will all be done. As far as Putney Bridge is concerned this is a high priority and it is the subject of weekly inspections. However our hands are tied to some extent by the closure of Hammersmith Bridge, Albert Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and the approach to Battersea Bridge. There are also issues regarding the cause of the problems. It would be foolish to throw good money after bad, and not get to the root cause, which appears to be a leak in the membrane which was laid in 1994 associated with a leak in one of the six water mains that run the road surface. The latter point is in the hands of Thames Water I can assure you and everyone who drives or cycles across the bridge that everything that can be done is being done as rapidly as possible. Have you reported the individual potholes that you mention or would you like me to do it. Cllr Jim Maddan |
