| Yes, Richard, Jewish immigrants soon assimilated and thrived in Britain. Though they had a different religion there were several factors aiding this assimilation: they were white, they were European,they had a work ethos which suited the British capitalist system, they were happy to embrace democracy. Unfortunately other immigrant groups have not assimilated so well for various cultural reasons. The process if assimilation in these cases has not been helped by the previous policy of multiculturalism. So Kemi Badenoch is right when she says that immigrants should be encouraged to conform to basic British values, something which she as a British Nigerian understands very well. |
